Hugo “Sgt. Guz” Guzman
Member, Board of Directors
Local Leader at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico
Reboot Recovery Leader
Hugo Alberto Guzmán Del Valle is a Puerto Rican chaplain, educator, and faithful servant known for his integrity, compassion, and deep commitment to those in need. His calling to serve was forged during his honorable military career as a U.S. Army sergeant, including two deployments to Iraq in 2003 and 2006.
Today, Hugo serves as a missionary with Christian Military Fellowship and is also a member of CMF’s Board of Directors. In this dual role, he leads Bible studies and facilitates Trauma Healing courses with a particular heart for addressing the growing crisis of soldier suicide. He also ministers to incarcerated veterans and serves as a local CMF representative at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, faithfully supporting active-duty service members, veterans, and their families.
Hugo is bilingual and is especially passionate about ministering to Spanish-speaking service members and veterans. When leading groups whose first language is Spanish, he teaches in Spanish, believing there is no more powerful way to share the Gospel than through God’s Word in a person’s own language.
In addition to his work with CMF, Hugo is actively engaged in ministry within correctional institutions, a nursing home, and with Teen Challenge of Puerto Rico. He serves as a Chaplaincy Professor at Mizpa Pentecostal University and teaches Sunday School for young people, investing in the next generation of believers.
Hugo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Human Services, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. He is currently nearing completion of his Master’s degree in Theological Studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
At the heart of Hugo’s life is his family, which he considers his first ministry. He resides in Puerto Rico with his beloved wife, Suheily, to whom he has been married for over 24 years, and their daughter, Paola Crystal. Both Suheily and Paola actively support and serve alongside him in ministry, assisting in teaching and encouraging soldiers, veterans, military wives, and others in their community.
Hugo’s greatest passion is the study of God’s Word, living a life of faithfulness and obedience, and being a willing instrument in the hands of the Lord.
