COL Herman Ter Meer, USA (Ret.)

Chairman of the Board

Colonel Herman Ter Meer, USA (Retired), serves as Chairman of the Board for the Christian Military Fellowship (CMF). In this role, he provides invaluable leadership, wisdom, and strategic insight to guide the ministry’s mission and long-term impact within the military community.

Herman brings more than 36 years of distinguished service in the United States Army, culminating in senior leadership roles such as Commander and Chief of Staff of the 4th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary). Throughout his career, he held numerous command and staff positions responsible for logistics, operational planning, personnel management, and sustainment operations across large, complex military organizations.

During his military career, Herman was responsible for logistics support across an entire Theater of Operations, sustaining more than 250,000 Soldiers through coordinated distribution by air, land, and sea. He managed and directed complex Department of Defense operations—including contracts, logistics, base operations, risk management, and public affairs—while overseeing contractor support and operational execution at the highest levels of command.

Herman’s military service began in 1981 when he enlisted in the Army and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, followed by Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, as a Field Artillery Radar Repair Specialist. He then entered Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1985.

Colonel Ter Meer deployed multiple times in support of global operations, including combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Logistics Task Force Commander for Joint Special Operations Forces. In these demanding assignments, he provided critical sustainment to elite units during high-intensity combat operations. His leadership required decisive action, precision coordination, and the ability to sustain forces in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

Later in his career, he served with the 4th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), where he deployed in support of U.S. Army Central Command (ARCENT). There, he directed logistics in Jordan and across the theater for a Joint Task Force supporting critical regional missions. He subsequently served as its commander.

His military education includes the Signal Officer Basic Course, Ordnance Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College, and the Advanced Logistics Officer Course. He holds both a Bachelor’s degree and an MBA in Business Management.

Colonel Ter Meer’s many awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, four Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, and three Army Achievement Medals. His service is further recognized by the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hourglass and “M” Device, honoring over 30 years of service.

Following his retirement, Herman has continued to support national defense initiatives as a government contractor for Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), contributing to mission-critical programs within one of the Department of War’s premier assessment and laboratory centers.

Herman was raised in the Catholic faith but came to know Christ personally in his early twenties through Calvary Chapel. This life-changing commitment to Jesus Christ has remained his guiding foundation, shaping both his leadership style and his dedication to serving others.

As Chairman of the Board, Herman applies his leadership experience, strategic discernment, and servant-hearted approach to strengthen the Christian Military Fellowship, ensuring the ministry remains focused and positioned for continued impact among service members and their families.

Herman is married to his wife, Mary Jo. They are blessed with three children—Laura, Jonathan, and Nicholas—and seven grandchildren.

Favorite Scripture: Psalm 18:39 – “For You have armed me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.”

This verse reflects both the physical battles faced during military service and the spiritual battles fought through faith in Christ.
