Untie The Apron Strings

I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request.  Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there.  1 Samuel 1:27-28

Male readers bear with me a few moments but this is about the art of letting go of adult children which I have not mastered totally but am trying.  You need to snip those apron strings and especially the older they get do not try to orchestrate their lives.  One thing you can always do and should do is pray.

We are given children for a season and have about 18 years to raise them.  After that college, marriage, and careers and possibly eventually children comes along and it can be very tempting to try to lord over someone but keep in mind your children are adults and they don't need you to give advice unless they ask for it. It is best to try to bite your tongue.

The thing you can do is to continually pray for them.  That is why I am ever so thankful for my Moms in Prayer group.  It is a confidential wonderful way to come together each week and pray for our children ages kindergarten through career time.  Men can probably get a bunch of dads together to pray but moms tend to be the ones who are crying out to God for the lives of our children in a different way than dads do.  Now is the time to pray, not preach.

PRAYER:  I pray for those with adult children to be respectful of them and continue to lift them up in prayer.  I pray for those with married children to learn to let them lead their own lives and continue to pray.  In Jesus' name. Amen.

Pray And Mean It!

Pray And Mean It!

And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.  Luke 22:44

How is your prayer life?  Is it a casual bedtime lay me down to sleep prayer?  Maybe it is a meal time simple one thanking God for your meal?  Perhaps a cry for help when in danger?  All these prayers are nice but have you ever really gotten serious about talking to God?

I am not sure what your experience with prayer is, but if someone asks you to pray for them maybe the best thing to do is to stop right then and  there and pray with them be it over the phone, in a parking lot, at the movie theater lobby, over lunch.  Never be ashamed to do this.  What is to be ashamed of anyway?  It is the enemy who brings that on people so boldly go ahead and pray.

Prayer is simply having a chat with God.  No big fancy language needed.  No man of God has to lead you in prayer.  Just pray.  Be sincere and pour out your heart to the Lord.  If you have not gotten into this very important habit why not begin today?

PRAYER:  I thank you that I can come to you in prayer either alone or with another person.  You want to hear my prayers and sometimes I get so busy I forget to do this.  Forgive me and help me to never be ashamed and to just pray.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Active Now

Active Now

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  John 14:27

Americans are obsessed with information and social media almost to the point of being a sickness.  When I got on my phone recently to post my food intake for the day I noticed '28 green lights' that indicated some of my 'friends' were active online at that time as well.  Sometimes inquiring minds just want to know but do we really need to?

Wouldn't it be great if we could read God's word as much as things on social media?  Imagine how life would improve.  All these photos and tidbits of news a click away is enticing but unless controlled can control you.  Is it time to bring balance to your life? Only you can answer that question.

Try this.  When you are tempted to check the status of friends or family instead go get your Bible and start reading Psalms.  Try to keep track of just how much time is spent peering into others lives through social media and see if maybe it is not time to peer into Jesus' life more.  Just saying.

PRAYER:  Lord I confess I have wasted lots of time with things that really don't matter for eternity especially on social media.  I pray for younger relatives who are growing up in this generation with non stop device use.  Help me learn to step away and rest.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Stronger Through The Storm

Stronger Through The Storm

But mark this:  There will be terrible times in the last days.  2 Timothy 3:1

I am driving down the interstate one morning and up pops this catchy insurance company billboard which is my title today.  Storms of life are certainly not fun but many of them are almost necessary for making us into the people God intends for us to be.  A way of smoothing rough edges and making us a beautiful finished product in the Master's hand.

Many today think we are in the last days because of so much evil going on.  Broken families, riots, distrust of government, back stabbing by friends, terrorism within our own borders, homicides, lying, abortion of 52 million unborn babies, people unhappy with the gender God gave them wanting a sex change operation, and on and on it goes.  Within families alone many despair over prodigal children.

God is on the throne.  He has not gone anywhere nor will He. Today I met a lady at the gas station in a God thing moment who told me I cheered her up as she had woken up gloomy.  There is no need to feel hopeless.  God has a plan.  Only trust Him.

PRAYER:  I don't enjoy going through storms and trials Lord but ultimately you have a plan and purpose and I know the rest of the story as the late radio host Paul Harvey used to say.  I will trust in you.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”  Ephesians 6:10-11

When you get dressed each day do you put on your armor?  Yes you heard me correctly, your armor.  Those items used in battle for protection. Each day whether you realize it or not you enter a major battlefield controlled by forces of evil and darkness.  Your job is to shine light and to protect yourself.

Take a moment and read Ephesians Chapter 6:10-18 in the New Testament.  In there you read exactly what is this armor of God and how do you put it on daily.  The word of God is your most important part as it serves as a your sword to keep those fiery flames darts from Satan from hitting you.  You combat them by reading and quoting scripture. To quote it you have to know it so to do this you study it.  Which is more important to you, Facebook or His book.

When you get dressed today don't forget your most important pieces of clothing that being your spiritual armor.

PRAYER: The battlefield I enter daily does not have to bring me fear for your word goes with me and strengthens me to face any corruption, deceit, onslaught or evil.  Thanks for my armor. In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Debris Field

Debris Field

But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.  2 Corinthians 11:3

Have you ever been driving at the posted speed limit on the freeway and all of a sudden a truck loses a retread tire, an unknown object appears in your lane, or something just causes you to have to swerve and unfortunately sometimes hit the object doing either minor or major damage to your vehicle.  It is one of the moments that if no one is take away by ambulance from injuries,  you just sigh.

There is the 'debris' of sin that can pop up and catch you unaware especially if you are 'asleep at the wheel' no pun intended.  An opportunity for a college student to make the wrong choice morally and succumb to sin.  Maybe it the temptation to cheat on something.  Perhaps breaking a rule at your office.  Threatening divorce to your spouse. Lying about something.  Many 'debris fields' are confronting Christians each and every day.

To be able to avoid debris fields of sin in life stay in the word of God.  Today for instance is the 3rd of the month so try reading Psalm 3 and then Proverbs 3.  Pray for God to open his truths to you and transform your thinking.

PRAYER:  I want to avoid debris fields of sin in my life.  Help me to run the other way when the opportunity to sin presents itself.  In Jesus' name. Amen.

Purify My Heart Lord

Purify My Heart Lord

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.  Psalm 51:10

Many of us could stand a good 'heart transplant'.  In other words you may have allowed things to creep in to your heart that tend to make you treat others poorly, think wrong thoughts, hold ill will, and a host of other things.  What is needed is a pure heart set apart to be Holy and love the Lord and things on the Lord.

You all know the story of King David committing adultery and then murder because of Bathsheba.  Out of this really bad  stuff, flows the Psalms which is full of rich teaching, truth, and wisdom for all.  Your heart can deceive you and can let things in that should not be there.

The Psalm above is something everyone should recite allot.  If your heart has caused you to do wicked things it is time for a new heart renewed by Jesus.  Often when you are at your lowest point is when God grabs your attention.  Where are you at today friend?

PRAYER:  I want to be set apart to serve you Lord.  Help me as I seek to guard my heart from things that would be impure or unholy.  I choose to discipline myself for righteousness sake. In Jesus' name.   Amen.

Love Those Who Hate You

Love Those Who Hate You

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.  Matthew 5:44

Social media has created a monster of sorts.  I admire those friends of mine who have not felt the urge to get on it for whatever reason. It has created a new modern phenomena,  that being superficial friendships and the dreaded monster of being unliked or unfriended. Ouch, those words sting don't they?

Don't put too much stock in Facebook first of all.  To be a friend you have to be a friend and that means spending time with your friends and making time for them.  There may be those who have been your friend in real life but now don't like you anymore.  I can't imagine not liking people cause I was taught to love and be kind.  Not everyone is the same. Sometimes deep rooted problems can cause reactions to different people as well so don't  take everything real hard if it happens to you.

Your job as a follower of Jesus is to love and not hate.  That means the vile politician, the rude store clerk, the difficult co worker, the aloof family member, the divisive inlaws, even those who curse you.  Pray for these people.  Maybe something has hurt a person that has created the monster they have become.  Continue to pray God would help you love them, period!

PRAYER:  Your desire is for me to be a representative of you and your kingdom. I can't do that gossiping, backbiting, hating, and judging.  Create in me a renewed heart full of love and compassion.  In Jesus' name. Amen.

Evil Amongst Us

Evil Amongst Us

But evil people and impostors will go from bad to worse as they deceive others and are themselves deceived.  2 Timothy 3:13

America was founded as an experiment of sorts.  A unique and God fearing nation with our Constitution to provide our self governance that people who are citizens must follow.  No dictators, tyrants, or regimes but fair governing.  This is a country people have yearned to come to and immigrants came here legally for decades.  But alas evil men and women have crept in over the years and corrupted what the original intent of this land was for and its' laws.

The United States laws were founded upon the Bible and Biblical principles.  Satan has never liked this so his minions, as I will call them, who were deceived into doing his work,  have slid in under the radar and have taken a great concept and tried to pervert it and destroy this land and its' God fearing people and laws and instead bring in Communism and socialism which are completely opposite of a democracy.

There is a saying that "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing" and that has never been more true than right now.  Remember what the Nazi's did to Germany as no one really spoke up and eventually many Jews were destroyed in gas chambers?  Look around you at terrorism right in our own country because we allow people into this country whose holy book says to kill us.  When is this nation going to come to its' senses?  It is time for you not to fear but to pray and do your part soon by voting and also by standing for the truth.  Don't know what it is?  Read the Bible.

PRAYER:  Lord Jesus I know in the end times scripture says perilous times will come.  It is prophecy. But we need not be lazy and just let it happen when we can pray and speak out for Liberty.  Thanks for blessing this free nation.  May you keep your protective hand over it and root out evil. In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Ten Cents From A Dollar

Ten Cents From A Dollar

You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me.  Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.  Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.  (Malachi 3:9-10)

What do you get if you take ten cents from a dollar?  90 cents of course.  That seems like very little money to be able to sacrifice each week yet how many neglect this important principal from God's word of tithing or giving ten percent of your earnings to the Lord?  This money is not yours because God has given you the ability to earn it.  The gift should not be  the last of the money after you pay your bills but the first thing.

Tithing should be a joy and not to be done because you feel like have to.  In 2 Corinthians 9:7 it reads "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."  Do you consider yourself a cheerful giver or do you feel you may border on being selfish with God?

Do you realize all the money you have been blessed with is really God's?  So many people do not understand the principal of tithing and therefore do not participate in it.  Even well meaning Christians can 'rob' God of His tithe.  Why not purpose in your heart that you will start to be a cheerful giver and do it faithfully and see what happens?  Do it from your heart.

PRAYER:  I know your word says where my treasure is there will be my heart and I certainly would rather my treasure be stored in Heaven and not consumed on things that don't last.  Help me to start being a faithful tither but to not announce it to everyone when I do.  In Jesus' name. Amen.
