"There is a striking contrast between the verbs used. As to His humanity, He was made of the seed of David, but as to His deity, He was declared. Humanity is a created thing but deity is uncreated. The human nature, or flesh of Christ, was made at a definite point in human history, but His divine nature was existing from eternity and needed only to be declared that men might see it." Dr. Alva J. McClain, Romans, The Gospel of Grace.

Resurrection Foretold by the prophets:

Psalms 16:10 "For You will not leave my soul among the dead or allow Your holy one to rot in the grave." (NLT)

Acts 13:34-35 "For God had promised to raise Him from the dead, not leaving Him to rot in the grave. He said, 'I will give You the sacred blessings I promised to David.' Another psalm explains it more fully: 'You will not allow Your Holy One to rot in the grave.'" (NLT)

Isaiah 26:19 "But those who die in the LORD will live; their bodies will rise again! Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy! For Your life-giving light will fall like dew on Your people in the place of the dead!" (NLT)

Resurrection Foretold by Jesus:

Matthew 20:19 "Then they will hand Him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day He will be raised from the dead." (NLT) Red letter

Mark 9:9 "As they went back down the mountain, He told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead." (NLT)

Mark 14:28 "But after I am raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there." (NLT) Red letter

John 2:19 "All right," Jesus replied. "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." Red letter

Declared with Power:

John 5:21 "For just as the Father gives life to those He raises from the dead, so the Son gives life to anyone He wants." Red letter

John 10:18 "No one can take My life from Me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what My Father has commanded." Red letter

The Resurrection of Christ is One of the cardinal facts and doctrines of the Gospel. If Christ be not risen, our faith is vain "And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless." (1 Corinthians 15:14 NLT) The whole of the New Testament revelation rests on this as an historical fact.

1 Corinthians 15:22 "Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life." (NLT)

Thank you dear Heavenly Father that you sent NOT an angel, nor some other created being, BUT you sent your beloved Son to save that which was lost because of my sin. Help me to live today in a way that belongs to Christ an His new life in me.

Romans 1:03 - Concerning the Son

Romans 1:3

"concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh," (NASB)

"Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;" (KJV)

"The Good News is about His Son. In His earthly life He was born into King David's family line," (NLT)

"Was born," "was made" ginomai G1096 to be or to become.

Gal 4:4 But when the right time came, God sent His Son, (G1096) born of a woman, subject to the law. (NLT)

Joh 8:58 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham (G1096) was even born, I AM!" (NLT)

Divinity and humanity God come down as a man.  Jesus' birth has spawned many questions and through the years all manner of answers have arisen.  But in our day, when women are implanted with embryos created in the laboratory, most of the questions fall silent.  It is not hard to see how the Holy Spirit creating a zygot within the Virgin Mary making her the surrogate for the God-man.

How could Jesus be born without original sin?

How could a virgin give birth?

I remember reading that Grace is literally love that stoops.  I pray, dear Heavenly Father, that today the attitude of my heart is one that gladly stoops for each person I meet.

Romans 1:02 - An Ancient Promise

Romans 1:2 - A Promise Kept

"which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures," (NASB)

"(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)" (KJV)

"God promised this Good News long ago through His prophets in the holy Scriptures." (NLT)

Proepaggellomai: to promise of old; promise before

"Wasn't it clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering His glory?" (Luke 24:26 NLT)

"He is the One all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in Him will have their sins forgiven through His name." (Acts 10:43 NLT)

"Now I am on trial because of my hope in the fulfillment of God's promise made to our ancestors." (Acts 26:6 NLT)

"This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not lie—promised them before the world began." (Titus 1:2)

"But now God has shown us a way to be made right with Him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago." (Romans 3:21)

A promise from before the world began (not a new age doctrine but conceived in the heart of God in antiquity) that has come to fruition in the lives of those who believe (not in a notional knowledge or a bare assent, nor in intellectual arguments, but in obedience) but in this the light of the Gospel, the Lord Jesus Christ.  Even more, it is a promise kept at no small price. It required the spilling of the blood of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. A promise kept and a gift given. A covenant written that cannot be erased.

Heavenly Father give feet to my faith in this the promise of old, your Son, Jesus Christ. Help me today in my obedience to this faith so that your light may shine upon someone yet in the same darkness where you rescued me.

Romans 1:01 - Bondservant

Romans 1:1 - Who has your ear?

Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God," (NASB)

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God," (KJV)

This letter is from Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, chosen by God to be an apostle and sent out to preach His Good News." (NLT)

Slave  (SLAVE, n.)

1.  A person who is wholly subject to the will of another; one who has no will of his own, but whose person and services are wholly under the control of another.  In the early state of the world, and to this day among some barbarous nations, prisoners of war are considered and treated as slaves. The slaves of modern times are more generally purchased, like horses and oxen.

The concept of being a slave or servant is rather foreign for this American mind to grasp.  Somehow, at a visceral level, there still remains the rebelliousness to any such thoughts.  Yet has not the bond-slave or bondservant chosen this state?  Was I not purchased from the marketplace of my own sin with the blood of Christ?  How is it then that I find in my being such an opposition to being "wholly subject to the will of another?"  This "another", after all, is the Son of God.  Yet here is Paul, who is "called," and "set apart" for the eternal purpose of the Gospel.

According to Dr. Alva J. McClain, there are seven words that allude to slavery in the Greek and this one, "doulos," is the most severe. When a person chose to be a bond-slave, the master pressed his earlobe to the doorpost of the house and pierced his ear with an awl. A piece of his ear thus became a permanent part of the house. In a similar way, Christ was pierced for us so that we would become a permanent part of his house. The question that remains is, "who has your ear?"

Heavenly Father today let your thoughts be my thoughts and your will be my will that your abundant love might touch a heart for Jesus sake today.
