Greener Grass Desired?

Greener Grass Desired?  Get a Lawnmower!

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said:

"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."  Hebrews 13:5

Comparison is so bad. Your eyes wander and TV commercials tell you what they think you need to be happier, more fulfilled, younger, leaner, successful and on it goes.  The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence and if it is you probably need a new lawnmower to take care of it.

I fall into this trap sometimes when I am out writing in coffee shops.  I see some professional woman sitting at a table interviewing someone and think "I could do that".  It is the enemy who makes us discontent with what we currently have.

Do you have a roof over your head?  Food on the table?  Fresh running water?  Clothes on your back?  A vehicle to drive?  Friends?  I would say those basic needs are pretty well met by a majority living in America.  When you start looking around at mansions, fancy cars, job titles you don't know in fact where those people's hearts are at or if in fact their life really is happy.  So beware. Don't let the enemy make you jealous as that is not a fruit of the spirit and will rot on the vine.

PRAYER: I love you Lord and I thank you for just where I am in life and the material things you have blessed me with.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

No matter what you do there may be a time in your life when you were overlooked for something.  A promotion, a pay raise, acceptance in a school or program, a scholarship, an election, a part in a school play.

Just remember, to God you are not second best or the runner up.  You are the best no matter what the world is throwing at you.  Your feelings may be hurt by something right now.  You have heard the phrase "when God closes a door He opens a window" and often times things we perceive as bad at the time they occur in the long run do us a tremendous favor.

So whatever it is you may be facing or waiting on or even dealing with, relax and trust God to direct your paths.

PRAYER: Often when we get left out, overlooked, laid off, or worse it can hurt bad. Help me trust you with all the details of my life and help me to not say or do anything rash but to relax and wait on your timing.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Note: in light of the Oscar Best Picture blunder the cast of La La Land has to feel a bit overlooked as well.  I wrote this devotion a week ago.

Famine Ahead!

Famine Ahead!

“Behold, the days are coming,’ declares the Lord God, ‘When I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall turn to and fro, to seek the word of the Lord, but they shall not find it.’”  Amos 8:11-12

Can you imagine if here in these United States originally founded using the Bible as the guide to even write laws, that there will come a time when the best selling book of all time, the Bible, could not be found anywhere, I mean anywhere?  Many scoff at this notion saying, "Becky that is not possible" but I say to turn off the secular news and tune in to things happening with Christians worldwide you never hear about on the three major networks.  Christian persecution is happening.  Even on some university campuses Christian Bible studies are not welcome.

There in fact may come a time according to this verse for today, when you will be starving for the word of God.  Now for people who don't even read it except on Sunday that will not be a loss, but to you who do love studying God's word you need to be hiding it in your heart so you will have it to rely on in troubled times ahead.  Imagine really starving for food which most reading this never have done.  Hunger yes, starvation no.  Literally starving I mean.  Imagine no Bibles anywhere.

Store up God's word in your heart.  Treasure it as if it were gold.  Many nations do not allow the Bible now.  Several years ago my husband travelled to the Middle East and hid his Bible in his suitcase.  Don't take God's word for granted.  Read it daily.

PRAYER:  I am so grateful to have a Bible, and many people have several.  Help me to treasure it above all else and use it daily.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Words. They Matter!

Words.  They Matter!

Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.  Colossians 4:6

These past few months with political debates, television  adds many people have become so angry.  I have seen professing Christians just going ballistic on Facebook pages spewing unseemly words about one candidate or another.  Are we really justified in being so ugly?  The answer of course is no.

The enemy is having a hey day with the actions of many.  The issue is we as believers need to stop judging, mind our own business, and pray.  Stop spewing hate ourselves.

This was the most important election of our lifetime.  One of the biggest issues is the three Supreme Court justices that will be put into play by whoever is elected.  Everyone seemed too angry to remember that factor.  The election is over.  I urge all of you reading this to take time each day to pray that the transition will be completed peacefully.  If you are beside yourself with anger, turn on some Christian praise music to soothe your soul.

PRAYER:  Dear Lord I am thankful for being born in a democracy.  Many in other nations probably laugh at us.  Help my brothers and sisters in Christ trust that you have a plan and help all of us know that once words are spoken they can't be taken back.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Mind Altering

Mind Altering

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

There are things that can make a person's mind be altered in ways not from God.  Examples would be alcohol and drugs.  You hear of people who can't relax or want to have fun so they drink.  Maybe there are those with problems they feel a magic drug or alcohol will help cure.  Deaths have occurred from mixing drugs and alcohol.

The best and most preferred way to 'alter your mind' is not with substances mentioned above but from reading God's word.  The Bible helps transform your thoughts and help you acquire peace and joy instead of fear and unhappiness.  It is also your guidebook through life to keep you on the right path.

When you feel upset, fearful, angry, bitter, forgotten, abused, unloved pick up the Bible, for in it you will find rest for your weary soul.  Give it a try.

PRAYER:  Lord I know that only through you are problems solved not by drinking or taking drugs.  I pray for those caught in that trap, often one of fear and unhappiness.  I need you every hour.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Having A Second Chance

Having a Second Chance

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--Ephesians 2:8

Have you ever done something really stupid and God gave you a second chance?  Vehicle accident, smoking, getting drunk, got in a lawsuit, did drugs, pornography  or saying something you regret.  Whatever it is, only Satan condemns.  You messed up.  He knows.  You prayed so don't beat yourself up.  God forgives so forgive yourself.

Today start the day by reading God's word.  Focus on friends who may have huge prayer needs.  Love people. Forgive people.  Be thankful. Enjoy life.  Love you spouse if married.  Write a real letter to someone to make their day.  You never know what someone is going through.

Whatever you do don't forget to tell those people special in your life you love them as you may never get another chance.  And read God's word and keep smiling.  Run from evil, pick right friends, and do good.

PRAYER:  I thank you Lord for wonderful people in my life and for saving me from things I did in past that were stupid.  My hope always is in you. In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."  Matthew 19:26

God can do anything.  Yes He can.  He does things for His purposes, His glory, and in His time. HIs plans are greater than our plans.

Many of you reading this may face a seemingly impossible situation and get impatient and angry with God.  How is your prayer life and Bible time?  Don't shut Him out.  I myself have waited for an answer to prayer and still wait but I know my ways and plans are not God's.  When you start to doubt you allow the devil to get a foothold and make you angry, worried or fearful.

I urge you to keep the faith.  Keep believing.  Keep praying.  Surround yourself with positive people and other prayer warriors to see you through your journey of waiting.  God hears you.

PRAYER:  Thanks for another day of life.  I thank you for struggles because they help make me stronger.  I choose patience and faith while I wait for what man says is impossible.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Keep Loving

Keep Loving

Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.  Romans 12:10

Do you ever catch yourself saying you don't like someone or someone drives you nuts?  Basically less than kind terms about people you know or maybe a total stranger!  I try my best to not let bad things about people come out of my mouth.  Maybe someone hurt you and you feel justified saying ugly stuff about them, mostly behind their back.  There really isn't a justification for a follower of Christ.

If you deal with speaking ugly about people whether friend or stranger try this.  Say to yourself, "I love that person. I love that person too."  Basically love them through Jesus with His love. Humanly we may get so angry but allow God inside to transform you.  Let Him pave the way to a kinder and gentler you.

Before you know it you may truly love your enemies.  Give it a try!

PRAYER:  I know I am an imperfect person.  I know also it is very important to control my mouth as well as my thoughts.  Help what I say and think bring glory to you.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Fighting The Battle

Fighting the Battle

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.  (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)

I don't know what struggle you have, but one of mine is imaginations.  The enemy knows this so he tries to attack me in this area.  Sometimes I allow him to, instead of fighting back with scripture.  We who are Christians should be aware we are in a battle for our very souls.  To be able to get a brother or sister in Christ imagining things and trying to figure things out is a specialty of the enemy.  If you feel this occurring stop what you are doing and tell Satan to leave you alone.

One example is that you think people are thinking something they are not.  It is necessary to take every thought captive and focus on good things and not dwell on stuff that will make you start thinking wrong things.  I am not saying this in a mentally ill sense but just the sheer area of controlling what your mind is allowed to dwell on.

Wake up daily and grab your Bible and saturate your mind with good thoughts.  Tell Satan he is to leave you alone because you are a child of the King.  Then go enjoy a peace filled day.

PRAYER:  I choose this day to focus on things above and how I can add joy to someone's life around me.  I cast down any wrong thinking. In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Communication Breakdown

Cummunication Breakdown

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:6-7

In 2016 here in America all forms of communication are available and often taken for granted.  When you can't get a cell signal, GPS, or other things it is very disconcerting.  I think of those in the recent hurricane's path who were without electricity and possibility communication.  But even leaving home without your mobile device can send you into a turmoil because you get so used to it.

Did you know God communicates to you?  Yes through His word.  Who hasn't had one of those days and then miraculously a friend or family member shows up and things much better?

God cares about what you are going through.  You may feel as if He has forgotten you but that will never happen.  Don't allow Satan to discourage you.  Press on!

PRAYER:  In my times of despair or hopelessness I know you are right there with me.  Your word is a light to my path.  Thanks.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.
