I got a note today from a young girl who lived near me almost 20 years ago. I was a fairly new Christian and in a really tough spot in my life then. She wrote to tell me that she never forgot me and has tried to find me over the years. Back when she would come over (she was only about 10 then) I would just be her friend. I took her to Church and shared my life with her. We prayed, cooked, talked, together, and I remember I used to write her letters about my own testimony and the things that I was learning about God. Girls love to get notes!
Anyway, she said that the time spent with her meant a lot and that she is still in Church to this day -- she's the only Christian in her family. She said no one else ever told her about the Lord nor bothered to take her to Church during her childhood.
It was very humbling to hear her talk because I honestly did not know I was witnessing to her then. I guess I always assumed that witnessing was some structured or contrived event (I know better now... but back then I didn't). I had no way of knowing that living out my faith day by day -- even in the boring and mundane things like handing laundry on the line and talking to a neighbor girl -- is what the Holy Spirit gave and used to witness to this girl.
