The subject of the 'end times' seems more relevant every day as 'stuff' spoken of in the Bible ass belonging to 'end times' esclates. But what exactly did Jesus have to say about end times? When will be the beginning and end of them? We know the signs, but how are we to respond?

I don't have anything helpful to add to this discussion -- although I hope others chime in because I love reading both what scripture says and what Christians think the scriptures are saying.

I am an eschatological coward *hangs head in shame.*

I was blessed to go through Revelations a couple of months back and for the first time I found it very immediate and familiar instead of being so hard to understand. The teacher kept it focused on Christ Jesus and left the dogma out -- that was a huge eye opener for me. What a book of awesome worship! I never understood before that the book is hard to understand because it is from such a heavenly perspective! When I stopped and looked at all that unfolds with the mindset of John being transported from an earthly prison to a heavenly perspective it was amazing.

Unfortunately as a young Christian I heard a lot of teaching that came from everywhere but the Bible. I was left petrified for a long time about all matters of end times and was really ruled by fear. Since then, and many years of sound teaching, I really am not afraid of what God will and won't do and when He will and wont do it. What I find most pressing for me when I contemplate the "end times" is how I am spending my own time. Am I searching for that lost coin or am I just spending what time I have here on earth basking in my own pleasures? That's a hard question to ask myself because I know the answer is I don't search with urgency when I should. I am anxious to study Isaiah and then Daniel. Maybe I will understand it all as my overall understanding increases.

Thamks for stopping by Claire! I'm probably a bit of an eschatological 'coward' myself, if being a coward means not holding vehemently to one of the various 'positions' out there. So these days I stick to the question: "What did Jesus have to say about them?". I find, as a good start, these passages:

Mat 24:30-31 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Mar 13:10 And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations.

Mar 13:26 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.

Mar 13:32 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come.

Luk 21:13 This will be your opportunity to bear witness.

Luk 21:19 By your endurance you will gain your lives.

Luk 21:27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

From these, I find out he is coming back, I am not to speculate about exactly when, and I am to continue to proclaim the gospel. and he will keep me strong through whatever I might have to endure.
