It is a pitiful situation if the very light is darkness. This happens when the eye of the soul is too diseased to see the light of Christ. (A. T. Robertson)
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." (John 8:12 NLT)
Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. (Luke 11:35 NLT)
In our world today there exists "Industrial Light and Magic" that through special effects creates an alternate reality. When our eyes see the result our minds see things that cannot be as though they are real. When this is for the sake of entertainment perhaps, no harm, no foul. But what of the light we see throughout our daily lives? When we look to Jesus, His light is pure and holy. His light brings life. But there is much light in this world that will only hurt our eyes! Oftentimes this hurtful light can be readily distinguished. However, sometimes the light we see may be disguised and we may not see the hurt well hidden. How then will we walk in Christ's light and be sure that what we see is not darkness masquerading as light? Son-glasses! Don't forget to put on Christ today! The warning is given in the present imperative calling for us to be on constant watch! It is also given with a singular pronoun so that we understand the warning is given to each of us!
