And that he might make known the riches of his glory,.... That is, his glorious riches, the perfections of his nature, his love, grace, and mercy, his wisdom, power, faithfulness, justice, and holiness; all which are most evidently displayed in the salvation of his people, here called vessels of mercy, which he hath afore prepared unto glory. (Dr. John Gill)
And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, (Romans 9:23 NASB)
And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, (Romans 9:23 KJV)
And what if he is willing to make known the wealth of his glory on the objects of mercy that he has prepared beforehand for glory —(Romans 9:23 NET.)
He does this to make the riches of His glory shine even brighter on those to whom He shows mercy, who were prepared in advance for glory. (Romans 9:23 NLT)
To those who have been partakers of salvation, "the riches of His glory" shine with a light full of thankfulness and appreciation. For we have been filled with His mercy not as an afterthought but according to the plan of the ages made long ago. He went to great length to prepare our hearts for this abundance and paid the terrible cost required to redeem us from the graveyard of the lost. For those of us who have been delivered from darkness how much greater was the contrast when we stepped full into His light. How humbling is the thought that we were chosen to be vessels of mercy and experience the full measure of this wonderful gift. He sought us when we did not, could not, would not seek Him.
Salvation is unto the glory of God (Rom. 9:23), even as it will be a manifestation of the grace of God (Eph. 2:7), and is now a manifestation of the wisdom of God (Eph. 3:10). (Dr. Lewis Sperry Chafer, Major Bible Themes)
So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of His grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all He has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:7 NLT)
God's purpose in all this was to use the church to display His wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 3:10 NLT)
Col 1:12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to His people, who live in the light. (NLT)
