I suppose that if one believes that their final destination lay six feet beneath the prairie sod, and that their lies within them no soul capable of life beyond the splendors of this life, then the thought of eternal bliss or eternal torment would be beyond the pale.
I suppose that if one believes that their final destination lay six feet beneath the prairie sod, and that their lies within them no soul capable of life beyond the splendors of this life, then the thought of eternal bliss or eternal torment would be beyond the pale. For those who believe, there is an affinity of the heart that would lead to an almost universal acceptance of a place of eternal happiness. However, to the contrary, the mere mention of a superheated destination seems to disappear from the radar scope altogether. Disingenuousness appears perhaps because the length of the pleasures of this life seem disproportionately short compared to an eternity of punishment. Yet these very precepts are contained within the divinely inspired confines of holy writ.
Many of those who sleep in the dusty ground will awake — some to everlasting life, and others to shame and everlasting abhorrence. (Daniel 12:2 NET)
Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace. (Daniel 12:2 (NLT)
The wicked of this world will indeed rise again but with all their sins upon them. Only then there will be the full conviction of their sin upon their conscience and they will be ashamed and will be held in contempt by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. The Christ who came down from heaven's throne and climbed upon the Calvary Cross that all who would believe would be saved from the wrath to come and thus not perish but instead be delivered into an everlasting life with Him. We, therefore, do ourselves and those around us no favor by ignoring the full counsel of the Scriptures. Here is the true "liberation theology!" Jesus came to give us liberty from the oppression of sin. We have been liberated and delivered from its power, and one day also from it presence.
And He has given Him authority to judge everyone because He is the Son of Man. Don't be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God's Son, and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment. (John 5:27-29 NLT)
I have the same hope in God that these men have, that He will raise both the righteous and the unrighteous. (Acts 24:15 NLT)
